Wisdom - AI-Powered Compliance Platform for Utilities, Energy & Storm Response

Project Overview

Project Overview

Wisdom is an AI-powered compliance and safety platform purpose-built for utilities, energy companies, and storm response teams built around the tagline “Simple Compliance, Smarter Safety.” It automates contractor onboarding, training, and risk management from one secure platform, replacing scattered emails, spreadsheets, and manual document chasing across the client’s Trade Ally contractor network.

Trade Ally Compliance, lets contractors submit insurance profiles, written safety programs, and compliance questionnaires directly through the platform, while reviewers score, approve, and track renewals with a full audit trail. Alongside it, Wisdom is rolling out a full suite of connected modules, an LMS for OSHA/DOT training, Risk Management, DOT Compliance, Drug & Alcohol Compliance, a Wisdom Wallet for digital credentials, and Mobile Forms giving utilities, public agencies, construction firms, and fleet operators one system to stay audit-ready.

Challenges

Development Challenges

Building a compliance platform for a regulated industry meant every workflow had to account for real-world legal and insurance nuances varying coverage requirements, document formats, and approval rules across contractor types. Designing Trade Ally Compliance as the first of several planned modules (LMS, Risk Management, DOT, Drug & Alcohol, Wisdom Wallet, Mobile Forms) meant the roles, permissions, and data model had to be extensible from day one, without over-building for modules not yet in scope. The team worked through these iteratively, in close collaboration with stakeholders, to keep the system both compliant and easy to use.

Modeling complex, multi-role permissions

Reviewers, contractors, utilities, instructors, and students each needed distinct dashboards and permissions, built on a granular roles-and-permissions system that had to stay maintainable as new roles were added.

Designing an auditable insurance & compliance review workflow

Insurance profiles, scorecards, written programs, and variance requests all had to be reviewed with an auditable trail, requiring careful state management for approvals, renewals, and expirations.

Integrating e-signature and AI-assisted document extraction

Supporting DocuSign-based agreements alongside AI-assisted document extraction (via n8n workflows) for COI, endorsements, EMR, and OSHA forms meant integrating multiple third-party APIs and asynchronous webhook callbacks, each with its own auth model and failure modes.

Building real-time rate negotiation

Adding real-time rate offers and negotiation chat required reliable low-latency messaging on top of the existing request/response architecture, handled via Laravel Reverb broadcasting.

Layering an LMS onto an existing compliance system

Extending the platform with courses, quizzes, certificates, and video lessons introduced media processing and new student/instructor roles without disrupting the core compliance workflows.

Supporting contractor employee sub-accounts

Sub-accounts for Trade Ally employees needed their own scoped permissions under a parent contractor account, adding another layer to the permission model that had to remain simple for non-technical users.

Our Solution

Our Solution

A Unified Compliance Platform Built to Grow Into a Full Safety Suite

We delivered Trade Ally Compliance as the flagship, fully live module, where utilities, contractors, and reviewers each work from a dashboard tailored to their role. Contractors submit and track insurance, safety, and compliance documents in one place; reviewers score and approve them with a full audit trail; utilities get instant visibility into contractor readiness including during time-sensitive storm response. Around this core, we architected the platform so additional Wisdom Tools (LMS, Risk Management, DOT, Drug & Alcohol, Wisdom Wallet, Mobile Forms) can be added as independent modules on the same foundation.

Rapid Trade Ally Onboarding

Digital sign-up, DocuSign agreements, and AI-assisted document intake get contractors active and working fast, without a single email thread.

Centralized Compliance & Credentialing

Insurance, written safety programs, and DOT/OSHA reviews are tracked in one auditable dashboard, giving utilities a clear, always-current view of every contractor’s status.

Built-In Training & Certification

An integrated Learning Management System delivers OSHA/DOT courses, bootcamps, and certificates, so every worker’s qualifications stay current and visible.

Continuous Safety & Risk Operations

Risk scoring, DOT and Drug & Alcohol tracking, the Wisdom Wallet, and Mobile Forms keep contractors and utilities audit-ready every day, not just at onboarding.

Features
Key Features

Key Features

Trade Ally Onboarding & E-Signature

  • E-signature onboarding   — Contractor agreements and master agreements are sent, signed, and tracked via DocuSign integration, with webhook-driven status updates for rapid onboarding.
  • Automated AI document extraction — Uploaded Certificates of Insurance, endorsements, Experience Modifier Rate (EMR) documents, and OSHA forms are automatically parsed via an AI-powered n8n workflow, which extracts key fields and returns them to the platform to speed up reviewer verification.
  • Employee sub-account    management — Trade Ally companies can create employee sub-accounts with granular, scoped permissions, no developer involvement required to adjust access.

Compliance & Credentialing Dashboard

  • Trade Ally Compliance – insurance & credentialing dashboard — Contractors submit insurance profiles, types, and scorecards; reviewers score, approve, or flag issues with a clear audit trail and renewal tracking.
  • Safety program &   regulatory tracking — Written safety programs, incident forms, experience modifiers, DOT/license tracking, and variance requests are all managed and reviewed digitally.

Learning Management System

  • Online Training / LMS — Assign and manage OSHA and role-based training with a built-in Learning Management System, tracking who’s cleared, what’s missing, and what’s next.
  • Certificates with QR verification — Learners earn auto-generated certificates on course completion, each with a unique QR code linking to a public verification page.
  • Live classes and video lessons — Zoom-integrated live class scheduling alongside on-demand, watermarked video lessons for self-paced learning.

Our Approach

Our Approach

Our Compliance Platform Development Blueprint

We used an iterative, Agile approach building Trade Ally Compliance first as the foundation, validating it with stakeholders, then designing the platform so the remaining Wisdom Tools (LMS, Risk Management, DOT, Drug & Alcohol, Wisdom Wallet, Mobile Forms) can be layered on as independent modules. Work progressed in short sprints with frequent reviews to keep the regulated, high-stakes core workflows accurate.

Concept & Inception (Discovery Phase)

Mapped existing manual compliance processes, defined contractor, reviewer, and utility roles, and prioritized the insurance and safety-program review workflow as the foundation.

Design & Architecture

Designed the roles-and-permissions model, database schema for compliance entities, and integration points for DocuSign, the n8n AI document-extraction pipeline, and broadcasting refined per module as new features were added.

Development & Implementation

Built the compliance core first, then incrementally added e-signature, AI document extraction, employee sub-accounts, and the LMS as separate, testable modules.

Continuous Testing & QA

Verified approval workflows, permission boundaries, and third-party integrations (DocuSign, payments, n8n webhooks) through targeted testing before each module went live.

Review, Demo & Retrospective

Demonstrated each module to stakeholders as it was completed, gathering feedback on workflow fit before moving to the next module.

Operations & Continuous Improvement

Continued to extend the platform post-launch adding sub-account permissions and building out the LMS, Risk Management, DOT, and other Wisdom Tools modules in ongoing development cycles.

Reducing Risk and Streamlining Contractor Compliance

By replacing manual document chasing with a centralized, auditable compliance platform, the client can verify and approve Trade Ally contractors faster, with far less risk of outdated or missing coverage slipping through including during high-pressure storm response work. Contractors get a self-service way to stay compliant, and the platform’s modular design opens new engagement channels as training, risk management, and DOT/drug & alcohol modules come online.

Fewer compliance gaps slipping through 01

Automated insurance scoring and renewal tracking catch expired or insufficient contractor coverage before work begins, instead of after an incident

Quicker Trade Ally activation 02

Digital submission, DocuSign e-signature, and AI-assisted document extraction cut the time between a contractor applying and being cleared to start work.

Storm-ready contractor verification 03

Utilities can confirm a contractor’s compliance status in minutes rather than hours, critical during time-sensitive storm response mobilizations.

One audit-ready source of truth 04

A single dashboard replaces scattered emails and spreadsheets, giving reviewers and utilities a clear, always-current view of every contractor’s status.

Room to grow without adding overhead 05

The same platform and contractor base can extend into training, risk management, and DOT/drug & alcohol compliance as those Wisdom Tools modules come online.

Summary

Summary

Quotivo shows how a traditional, labor-intensive lead-brokering business can be rebuilt as a fully automated two-sided marketplace. A Laravel-based platform now handles the entire value chain — SMS-verified lead capture, intelligent distribution, tiered credit monetization, Stripe billing with Italian VAT compliance, and self-optimizing growth loops like nurturing drips and referrals — while giving installers hard ROI numbers and the founders a monthly, automated view of the business. The data-driven architecture means new service verticals (solar, heat pumps, insulation) can launch with configuration alone, positioning the client to scale across Italy’s entire home energy-renovation market.
